8″x10″ acrylic, 2009. Certain people tend to anthropomorphize stuffed animals more than others, and those people are sometimes adults — adults who might happen to be married to me. And other people with the same tendencies might happen to be employed by my husband. And so a bizarro transaction took place involving this lion. Said employee had two identical lions. One was at home, and the other she kept at work because if they were together they “might fight.” Greg was concerned that some harm would come to the “work lion” if left there, and so he convinced the lion’s owner that he would give it a good life in the care of our Sonja. So far the poor lion has been working long hours modeling in my studio, but I think now I will set it free in the wilds of the nursery.

i already anthropomorphize things as much as the average (stuffed polyester microfiber) guy, but i have to say this ‘work lion’ has taken me to the next level.
i believe your husband’s employee is correct in declaring it to be actually ALIVE. after looking into the depths of its limpid eyes, i believe it is capable of not only of ‘working’, but of unionizing, lobbying to its local lion representative, and organizing its own pension stock portfolio. i believe it will not only make a nice playmate for Miss Sonja, but in the years to come, it will tutor her in the aternoons.
…Or maybe it’s just the clever highlights you painted around its seams….but i dunno…that attentive expression and self-possessed body language? it’s the cutest thing i’ve ever seen. how much? is it for sale? or did its ‘owner’ commission this? wait! it asked you itself, didn’t it. it emailed you.
A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!
